an impromtu getaway

We just returned from a wonderful getaway at the Disneyland here in Hong Kong.

While we are completely exhausted, we had a fantastic time. My kids did not stop smiling the entire time we were there. They’ve never been to any Disney, so this was a first in many ways. It’s much smaller than any of the US ones, but since they had nothing to compare it to, it worked out great! We had planned to go this weekend, but with a typhoon in the forecast, we held off on making reservations. When we woke up on Sunday and it wasn’t raining, we checked the weather and discovered the rain was pretty much gone. That morning, hubby said, “Let’s go! I’ll go make reservations at the hotel and you go wake the kids and start packing!”

I woke them all up and told them to pack an overnight bag and a bathing suit. They were all disappointed because they thought we were going to Macau again. Laughing They were looking forward to swimming in the pool though, so they were trying to muster up excitement. We never corrected them and continued to pack, smirking all the while.

We took a taxi to the train station, went inside and headed off for the train that connects to the “Disney Express”. It says “Disneyland Resort line” on all the signs, but the kids were just following us to the right place to get the train and ignoring everything else. Train stations have become old news. We ended up having to wait 6 minutes for the next train, giving our 5yo son time to read every.single.sign (as he ALWAYS does) and discover where we were going. (Who taught that kid to read?!) The kids all sat there with their mouths hanging open, grins spreading over their faces and questions flying, confirming what D had read. R said, Am I dreaming?!” with a happy sigh. She repeated that off and on the whole time we were away. :)

As I said, we had a fantastic time. It was wonderful for Daddy and I to see all the kids smiling, having a great time, and forgetting the stresses of life here in HKG. It was a nice break for hubby and I too. Disneyland seemed like a little oasis of “normal”, especially walking down Main Street, USA. Wink It was a nice mental break most of all, which was very needed around here.

Now I’m off to wash all the clothes and bathing suits, take a long shower to get all the sunscreen off and have some good sleep in my own bed. Ahhh, sweet bliss.

P.S. On a funny note, hubby lost his shirt at the pool. We’ve no idea where it went, but regardless, he had to go the hotel gift shop to buy a t-shirt to wear since we packed light. He came back with a shirt that barely fit and I looked at him funny. He said, “Don’t start. This is an XL. Except I’m not CHINESE!!!” BAH HA HA HA. One good wash and dry and that thing will fit the 5 year old. Laughing

What an awesome surprise for the kids!

I remember shopping…or TRYING to…in HK when I was there. I was a US size 12 and I was devastated at the sizes!
