our day

Today was a big day. I went to a mom’s group in Tai Po, and met some great ladies, including Beth, my online friend. I guess now she’s my IRL friend. (That stands for ‘in real life’ for those who don’t know.) It was so relaxing to be with likeminded ladies and get even more information about Hong Kong. I’m looking forward to joining the group when we settle here.

Other big news is that I think we found THE apartment. It has everything we wanted, including an OVEN. No one has ovens over here. You just find a two burner cook top….no oven. I was thrilled to see that tiny appliance. And man, it is tiny. Undecided We met a policeman at the church we visited on Sunday and he has said that once we find a place, he will do the negotiation for us…check the contract, bicker about the rate, etc. It’s all part of the game here….like buying a car in the states. The price isn’t the price, and there are lots of “extras” that can be thrown in. We took lots of pictures and as soon as the disappearing camera cable shows up, we can upload them. Or download them, or however you load them.

We got done looking at apartments by 2:30, so we set off to do some sightseeing. We rode a tram to the highest point in Hong Kong called Victoria’s Peak. It was stunning. Again, we took pictures, but…… We treated ourselves to a Hagen-Daz icecream cone when we got to the top, and MAN, was it good. Smile

We rode on double decker bus (open top) which was really cool. It took us down to the ferry, where we rode across the harbor. That was a gorgeous ride too. And yes, we have pictures of that too….AARGH!! Yell

Tomorrow, Beth, my new buddy, is taking me around for the day…..a girlie day. YEAH!! We are going to check out the stores so I can see for myself what is here. I’m looking forward to that!

Tomorrow evening, we are having dinner with a family we met that has four children, all girls, the exact same ages as ours. The adults are Hong Kong natives, so we will get some great information from them as well as have lots of fun.

It’s 10:30 pm here and I’m beat. All this walking is making me lose weight (YEAH!! Smile ) but I’ve never been so totally exhausted in my life (BOOOO! Frown). Stay tuned for more info…..
